The Wonderful 101: Remastered Kickstarter for PC, PS4 and Switch
Platinum Games has just launched a Kickstarter for one of its more iconic Wii U exclusives. You can now back the development of The Wonderful 101: Remastered which is aiming for a port for the Nintendo Switch, PC and PlayStation 4.
One of Wii U’s overlooked gems is getting a second lease at life in the form of current-gen ports. Well, kind of. In fact, you, the gamer are being asked to make this dream turn into reality by directly financing the porting endeavors of Platinum Games. Just last week, rumors made its way across the internet of exactly today’s Kickstarter but some were still in disbelief. After all, while attaining cult status among hardcore gamers, The Wonderful 101 was a financial failure.
That’s
has more to do with the system it launched on, however, and not the
game itself. Bein a Wii U exclusive was a death sentence to almost every
game that wasn’t a core Nintendo IP. And with Platinum Games
introducing an entirely new IP, chances got even smaller.
The Wonderful 101 is a “Unite Action” action-adventure game developed by PlatinumGames Inc., directed by action game luminary Hideki Kamiya, and originally released on the Nintendo Wii U.
Nonetheless,
that is all in the past, and the Japanese developer is trying to give
their excellent game a second chance by widening the audience
significantly. But with a caveat. If the Kickstarter manages to
accumulate over $50K a Switch version is promised. A PC version requires
$250k in funding and a PlayStation 4 version asks for a hefty $500k.
Cult game or not, half a million from the gaming community is a tall
order. As of writing, funding already topped $230k, so Switch &
Steam ports are certain.
You can fund
The Wonderful 101: Remastered across a broad range of pledges between
~$40 – which gives you a digital version – up to a ludicrous ~$5100. As
is custom with Kickstarters, the higher your pledge, the more goodies
Platinum Games throws in. These range from stickers, pendants, T-shirts
and much more. Head on over to the Kickstarter page to learn more.
